Backstory
Each card is brought to life through the gorgeous artwork of Alex Cabal, an incredibly skilled Filipino illustrator, whose art blends the mystical with the modern in breathtaking colors. Nothing is made from AI.
When submitting my proposal, I was intentional about my desire to work with another woman of color as my artist/illustrator, noting that an Asian woman would be ideal because we are underrepresented in publishing and the tarot and metaphysical world.
Why I Created Divine Cosmos Tarot
This deck was born during the pandemic and left on the shelf (or literally in my Google Drive) until one of the hardest chapters of my life unfolded. My mother passed from younger-onset Alzheimer’s, and at the same time, my marriage was crumbling.
During this time of shadow, I turned to the “stars and the cards” (astrology and tarot) to make sense of the upheaval in my life. The Divine Cosmos Tarot became not just a creative project, but a way of healing and reconnecting with myself.
This deck would not be here today if it weren’t for my mentor and coach, Pamela Chen. At the time, she didn’t even work with clients and tarot deck creation/proposal anymore, but she read my proposal and decided to take a chance on me. We worked together to finalize and submit everything to her editor, including removing energetic blocks and shifts that held me back. In less than six weeks, we received a “yes!” and I secured my first publishing contract. THANK YOU, PAM. I couldn’t have done it without your guidance and your belief in me.
